Antti entered a 10 kilometer race. His goal is to finish in one hour. He starts off sprinting, and completes the first 2 kilometers of the race at an average speed of 12 kilometers per hour.
To achieve his goal of a one-hour finish time, what average speed must Antti maintain for the last 8 kilometers of the race?
This has already been answerd in a previous post in the last couple of days.
If he ran the first 2km at 12 k/hr......it has taken him ... 2km/ [12km/hr] = 1/6hr to do so
So.......he must run the remaining 8km in 5/6 hr........so......
Distance / Rate = Time where R is the rate he must maintain
8km/ R = [5/6] hr ......rearrange.....
R = [8km] / [5/6]hr
R = [8km] * [6/5] hr
R = [48/5]km/hr = 9.6 km/hr
