A chipmunk hid 3 acorns in each holes and squirrel hid 4 acorns in each of the holes but they hid the same number of acorns and the squirrel had 4 fewer holes

Let the number of holes that the Chipmunk used =N

And the number of holes that the Squirrel used =N - 4

 

But we have:

3N = 4[N - 4]

3N = 4N - 16

N=16 holes that the Chipmunk used.

3 x 16 = 48 acorns that the Chipmunk hid.

16 - 4 = 12 holes that the Squirrel used

12 x 4 =48 acorns that the Squirrel hid.
