A man wants to make up 100 one-pound jars of nuts to sell for 66 cents a jar. He plans to use 40 pounds of nuts worth 75 cents a pound. What should be the unit price of the other type of nuts he uses?

Let  P  be the price  of  the other  60 lbs  of  nuts

So we have this

40 (.75)  + 60(P)  = 100 (.66)    simplify

30  + 60P  =  66      subtract  30  from both sides

 60P =  36      divide both sides by 60

P =  36 / 60   =    6/10   =   .60    [ 60 cents ]
