A store's cost for a stereo was $27. The markup was 75%. A customer purchased it on sale at 40% the marked up price. What was the purchase price of the stereo?

$27 x 1.75 = $47.25 - The price of the stereo after 75% markup

$47.25 x [1 - 40%] =

$47,25 x [60%]      =

$47.25 x 60/100    =$28.35 - The purchase price of the stereo at 40% discount.
