1. Find a if the point (3,a) is on the line that passes through (-2,7) and (5,-3).

2.A line has the equation y=-2x/3 and passes through the point (2, -3) write the equation for the line in standard form.

3. Let line L_1 be the graph of 5x + 8y = -9. Line L_2 is perpendicular to line L_1 and passes through the point (10,10). If line L_2 is the graph of the equation y=mx +b, then find m+b.

x = 3   is between   -2   and 5      5 /7 of the way between (moving from 2 to 5)

    for y   find 5/7 of the way between   7 and -3      a change of -10    5/7 (-10) + 7 = - 1/7

A line has the equation y=-2x/3 and passes through the point (2, -3)

   this line does not pass through 2,-3

change  y = -2/3 x  into  ax + by = c form

              3y = -2x

              2x+ 3y = 0

Here is another line THAT DOES pass thru 2,-3  and has SLOPE = - 2/3

  y = -2/3 x + b   sub in the given point

 -3 = -2/3 (2) + b

b = -5/3

y = -2/3 x - 5/3

2x + 3y = -5
