WolframAlpha gives the following solutions for this system........u = 19/2 and v = 7/2 and x = 7/2 and y = 9/2

I didn't have time to work this out before....let me do so now.....

x + y = 8       (1)

u - v = 6        (2)

x + u   = 13    (3)

y + v = 8        (4)

Multiply (3) by -1 and add to (1)  →   y - u = -5   (5)

Add (2)  and (4)  →   y + u =  14    (6)

Add (5)  and (6)    →   2y = 9  →    y = 9/2

Using (6), u = 14 - 9/2  =  19/2

Using (1),  x = 8 - 9/2 = 7/2

Using (4). v = 8 - 9/2  = 7/2
