Line r contains points (6, 1) and (-4,-4). Which of the following pairs of points define a line parallel to line r?

A (0,2) and (6, 5)

B(8,2) and (6, 5)

C(2, 0) and (5,6)

Parallel lines have the same slope

The slope of  r  is     [ -4 -1 ]   / [ -4 -6] = [ -5 ] / [-10] = 5/10  = 1/2

A (0,2) and (6, 5)

slope =   [ 5 - 2] / [ 6 - 0]  =  3/6  =  1/2     parallel

B(8,2) and (6, 5)

slope = [ 5 - 2] / [ 6 - 8 ] =   3/-2     =  -3/2   not parallel

C(2, 0) and (5,6)

slope  = [ 6 - 0 ] / [ 5 - 2]  =  6 / 3  =  2   not parallel

D(5,2) and (3, 0)

slope  = [ 0 - 2 ] / [ 3 - 5] = -2/-2  =  1   not parallel
