it would take 150 minutes to fill the swimming pool using hte water from 5 taps .how many minutes will it take to fill the pool if only 3 taps are used
B.an assumption being made in my working is that all the taps are flowing at the same ........
150 (5/3) = 750 / 3 = 250 min
To see this
Note that every minute 1/150 of the pool is filled
Then each of the 5 taps fills 1/5 of this = 1 /150 * 1/5 = 1/750 of the pool
Then 3 taps fill 3/750 of the pool in a minute
Invert this fraction =
750 / 3 = 250 min
