Assuming a consistent proportion, x is to 18 as 2 is to 10

                                                         x          2

                                                       –––  =  –––

                                                        18        10

cross multiply                                  10x  =  36

                                                           x  =  3.6

You can't have point six of a balloon,

so round this to a whole number, one

way or the other.  Convention would

be to round up.

That's right, because I clumsily misread the problem.

It would have been nice if you'd said how it was wrong.

I should have said x is to 18 as 2 is to 12

(should have included the blue ones in the known ratio)

                                                         x          2

                                                       –––  =  –––

                                                        18        12

cross multiply                                  12x  =  36

                                                           x  =  3

.
