Ramesh has 1/3 as many $2 bills as $5 bills. The total value of the $2 and $5 bills that Ramesh has is $136. How many $5 bills does Ramesh have?     

 

T = (1/3) F           —> both sides x6     —>  6T –   2F  =      0     (eq 1)     

2T + 5F = 136     —> both sides x3     —>  6T + 15F  =  408     (eq 2)     

 

subtract (eq 1) from (eq 2) to obtain                     17F  =  408     

                                                                                  F  =    24
