Our company parking lot has cars, trucks, and motorcycles. The ratio of cars, trucks, and motorcycles is \(4:3:2 \)  If there are a total of  42 cars and trucks, then how many motorcycles are there?

cars (4) and trucks(3)       represent     (4+3)   out of  (4+3+2)   vehicles   or   7/9 of the vehicles     the remaining 2/9 are motorcycles

   7/9 x = 42      where x = the total number of vehicles        x = 54

2/9 of these 54 vehicles are motorcycles     2/9 (54) = 12 motorcycles
