Just thinking about the graph in my head I would say the answer would be 2sqrt2

I am thinking of the point  (sqrt2, sqrt2) on the circle

Do you mean (sqrt2/2, sqrt2/2)?

To maximize, x=y

so x=y=(sqrt2)/2

Therefore the answer is sqrt2
