The area of the trapezoid ABCD is equal to 60. The length of one of of the bases is 7 units greater than the other base, and the height of trapezoid ABCD is equal to 6. What is the legth of the median of trapezoid ABCD
Let x be one base and (x +7) the other
Then
area = (1/2) (height ) (sum of the bases) .....so.....
60 = (1/2) (6) ( 2x + 7)
60 = 3 (2x + 7)
60 / 3 = 2x + 7
20 = 2x + 7
20 - 7 =2x
13 = 2x
13/2 = x = 6.5 and the other base = x + 7 = 13.5
Median length = (sum of bases) / 2 = 20 / 2 = 10
