20 famlies were surveyed

 

1. We can use a  weights to find the average

 

[ 6(0) + 3(1) + 3(2) + 6(3) + 1(4) + 1(5)] / 20 =

 

[ 36 ] / 20 =

 

18/10  =

 

1.8 pets = average

 

 

2.   List the data

 

0, 0, 0, 0 ,0, 0, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 5

 

The median  is the sum of the 10th and 11th values / 2  =  [ 2 + 2 ] / 2  = 4/2  = 2
