Point M is the midpoint of Line Segment JK . what is JK when JM = 6x-7 & MK= 2x+3
Point M is the midpoint of Line Segment JK . what is JK when JM = 6x-7 & MK= 2x+3
Since M is the midpoint, then JM must equal MK....so we have.....
6x - 7 = 2x + 3 subtract 2x from both sides and add 7 to both sides
4x = 10 divide both sides by 4
x = 10/4 = 5/2 and that's the x coordinate of the midpoint...and to find the y coordinate, just substitute this value inro either equation.....so we have
2(5/2) + 3 = 5 + 3 = 8
So the midpoint is (5/2, 8)
