Exponents, also called powers, are when you multiply a number by itself.

The larger first number is the number being multiplied, and the smaller second number is how many times it gets multiplied.

 

For example, 5³ means 5×5×5

 

Most calculators have a button that looks something like this for inputting exponents: x^y
