Plz help if you can  

solve the equation  

106 = 8(k-10) - 7(6k - 12)  

 

I remember something my plane geometry teacher once said. 

"Go as far as you can, then see how far you can go."

It doesn't always work, but sometimes it does. 

 

Let's start with the equation as given              106  =  8(k-10) - 7(6k - 12)  

 

Next, multiply it on out                                     106  =  8k – 80 – 42k + 84  

 

Combine like terms                                          106  =  –34k + 4  

 

Subtract 4 from both sides                               102  =  –34k  

 

Divide both sides by –34                                    –3  =  k  

 

                                                                             k  =  –3
