(x-4)^3/2=27

 ((x-4)^3)^(1/2)   = 3^3          take cube root of both sides

sqrt(x-4) =3      square both sides

x-4 = 9

x = 13

(x-4)^(3/2)=27       take each side to the 2/3 power

x - 4  =  27^(2/3)

x - 4  = [27^(1/3) ]^2

x - 4  = [3]^2

x - 4  = 9

x  = 13
