1. A helicopter departs from an airport flying at a speed of 90 miles per hour at a bearing of 250° for 20 minutes before landing on a helipad.
Determine the helipad’s location in relation to the airport. Round to the nearest tenth of a mile. Show all your work and explain your reasoning.
Bearing is usually measured from a north-south line
So....I'm taking 250° as being the standard position in trig (this puts the helipad in the 3rd quadrant )
So.....using my assumption the helicopter has traveled 90* (1/3 hr) = 30 miles
Assuming that the airport is at (0,0)....the position of the helipad is
(30cos 250°, 30 sin 250°) = ( -10.3 , -28.2)
