If the bottom is a 2 x 2 square, the semi-circle surmounting it will have a radius of 1.

So the total area will be the area of the circle plus the area of the square  =

[ (1/2)*pi * (1)^2 ] +  [ 2 x 2 ]  =

pi/2  + 4  =

about 5.57 units2
