I do not KNOW this is correct:

the chance the bomb does not hit the target is 1/2

the chance that 2 bombs do not hit the target is 1/2^{2}

the chance they DO hit the target is 1 - 1/2^{2}

for 99 % chance 1- 1/2^{x} = .99

.01 = 1/2^{x} take log of both sides

-2 = -.30103 x

x = 6.64 or ~~ 7 bombs
