problem:the top of a round table is 4 feet in diameter. the top splits to allow two extra boards to be inserted.the expansion board are 4 feet by 1 1/2 feet.
what is the are of the expanded table??
help me..
The area of the table before the boards are inserted is
pi(d/2)^2 where d is the diameter...so we have
pi(4/2)^2 = pi (2)^2 = 4pi ft^2
The area of one of the boards is 4 x (1+1/2) = 4(3/2) = 6 ft ^2
And there are two of them.....so this makes 12 ft^2
So....the total area with the boards inserted is just
(4pi + 12) ft ^2
