Your equation   1 x^2 + 8x +7  =0         a = 1    b = 8    c = 7

Plug these values in to the quadratic formula to find values of x that satisfy the eqaution...

\(x = {-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac} \over 2a}\)

You should be able to do that.....

alternatively the expression is trivially factored as

(x+7)(x+1)=0

and you should be able to solve it by inspection from this form.
