an object from a height of 24 feet is thrown with an upwards velocity. 58 feet per second. How long does it take the object to hit the ground?

xf = x0 + vo t + 1/2 a t^2          xf = final position= the ground = 0

                                                 x0 = origianl position = 24 feet (given)

                                                v0 = original velocity = 58 ft/s  (given)

                                                 a = acceleration of gravity =  - 32.2 ft/s^2

so put in the values and solve for t

0 = 24 + 58 t + 1/2 (- 32.2) t^2

             solve for t     (there may be a negative value for t that appears after you use the Quadratic Formula....throw it out)
