How would you solve this?

Slope = -5/2

Point (2,8)

We want the form    y = mx + b

Where m is the slope and b is the y intercept

So we have

y = (-5/2)(x - 2) + 8     simplify

y = (-5/2)x + 10/2 + 8

y = (-5/2)x + 5 + 8

y = (-5/2)x + 13

Let's write this as

y = mx+b     and we know   2,8 is on the line (substitute these in to the equation)

8 = -5/2 (2) + b

8 = -5 + b               so b = 13 and the equation becomes

y = (-5/2) x + 13
