if a flagpole casts a shadow of 32 feet long and if a man 6 feet casts a 8 feet shadow at the same time and location how tall is the flagpole

We can solve this using a proportion

 

height of flagpole / length of the shadow it casts   = height of man / length of shadow he casts    ....so....

 

H  / 32    =   6 / 8           cross-multiply

 

8H  = 32 * 6

 

8H  = 192           divide both sides by 8

 

H = 24 ft
