A circular oil slick has a diameter of 1 km. The newspaper reported an area of more than 1 km squared. is the newspaper correct?
No......
If the diameter was 1 km the radius = (1/2) km
And the area would be
pi * r^2 = pi * (1/2 km)^2 = pi / 4 km^2 = about pi/4 = 0.785 km^2
Thx. i wasnt sure if any1 would answer but sure enough they did! i did work it out but its good to know a site that actually answers correctly. once again thx.
