if you have a 25% chance of getting somethin. and you do that 4 times. What are the odds of getting that ?
Hey Alan......check your math (1/4)^4 = 1/256 This just doesn't seem right.......the MORE tries you make the LESS chance of your desired outcome??
I'm never quite sure about these probabilities, but let's look at it another way each try has a 3/4 chance of NOT being what you want (3/4)^4 =81/256 chance you will NOT get what you want......isn't that a 175/256 chance you WILL get what you want? I do not know.......
25% = 1/4
Do it four times, each time independent of the others, and the final probability is (1/4)^4 = 1/16 (or 6.25%)
.

Oops!! You're right 4^4 = 256, so probability is 1/256.
I've interpreted the question to mean what is the probability of getting all four.
If you interpret it to mean what is the probability of getting at least one (for example) then the probability is
1 - (1- 1/4)^4 → 1 - 81/256 → 175/256 (≈ 68.3%)
.
Thanx for the follow-up, Alan ! These questions can frequently be vague and subject to several interpretations....Yah?
