A flagpole broke in a storm. It was originally 818181 feet tall. 282828 feet are still sticking straight out of the ground, where it snapped, but the remaining piece has hinged over and touches the ground some distance away. How far away is the end of the pole from the base of the pole along the ground?

The part that is broken off is a hypotenuse of a right triangle and  = [ 818181 - 282828 ] = 535353 ft

We can use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the  end of the pole from the base  =

sqrt ( 535353^2  - 282828^2)  = 454545 ft
