This question's driving me nuts! Spend 2 hours pondering over it... can someone shed some light upon it?

Here's the link https://web2.0calc.com/questions/probability_24535

P.S. Just ping me here if you've done :)

Thank you!

Hi Amy,

On the surface, that probability problem seems simple.  The math is simple, but the logic to arrive at the math requires meticulous care.

The solution to this problem becomes apparent by extracting the relevant sample space and “filtering out” the larger irrelevant data sets.  My (corrected) solution is presented here:  https://web2.0calc.com/questions/tricky-probability-hints#r16.  Melody’s Venn diagram clearly demonstrates how the data sets are distributed.  This picture is worth 2304 data points.  That's more than a thousand words.

Thanks Ginger, and thanks for the compliment.

That was a great interactive thread between the 2 of us :)

Thank you so much Ginger and Melody for your explanations :) I understood the concept even though the question's a bit different from the one you solved.
