Sally and Tina are both driving to Oklahoma city for a concert. Sally leaves one hour before Tina and drives at and average speed of 60 mph. Tina leaves an hour after Sally and drives at an average speed of 70 mph. How long after Sally will Tina catch up to her? How many miles have they driven at that point?
Also if you could show your work, that would be great. Thanks
Notice that when Tina starts, Sally has a 60 mile head start. But since Tina drives 10 miles per hour faster, she makes up 10 miles on Sally every hour. Thus, it takes her 6 hours to catch Sally.
Sally has driven 7 hrs at 60mph = 420 mles.
And Tina has driven one hour less - 6 hrs - at 70mph = 420 miles
And that makes sense !!!
