Sam will get a piece of the triangular tin plate whose base is 12 inches and whose height is 15 inches from a piece of tin plate that measures 36 inches by 25 inches. How many square inches will be left of the rectangular piece often Sam gets what he needs?

Recall the area of a triangle = 1/2 base x height

the area of the sheet from which the triangle area is subtracted is  l x w

so  l x w  - 1/2 base x height = remaining sheet area

36 x25 - 1/2 x12 x 15  = 810 sq inches
