1/3 = 3/9

3/9 + 5/9 = 8/9

He sold 1/9 of the fruits.

He sold (2/3)  of  the apples  and  (4/9) of  the  oranges

So

(2/3) A  =  (4/9)O

A  = (3/2)(4/9)0

A  = (2/3) O

So total  avaiable   =  A  + O   =   (2/3)O  + O   =  (5/3)O

So....fraction sold  =

(2/3)A  + (4/9)O          (2/3)(2/3)O  +  ( 4/9)O            (4/9 + 4/9)  O             8/9

_____________  =     ___________________  =   ____________   =  _______  =

          (5/3) O                       (5/3) O                            (5/3) O                     5/3

(8/9) * ( 3/5)  =  24 / 45  =   8   /  15
