A ratio of 4:9   means 4/13 are childrens meals

13/4 x 36 = 117 meals total

4/9   = 36/A    where A is the number of adult meals......cross-multiply

4A  =  36 * 9

4A  =  324     divide both sides by 4

A = 81

Total number of meals sold =  36 + 81 =    117

cool cool cool
