√(72) = √(36*2) = √(36) * √(2) = 6√(2) ≈ 8.49

Thank you so very much!  The other one I am doing I keep getting wrong.  I have the √175 = √35*5 - √35 * √5 = 35√5 - 13.23    is that corect?

175 = 25*7 so √175 = √(25*7) = √25 * √7 = 5*√7 ≈ 13.23

Let's look at √(175) again....I believe the decimal answer is OK, but let's look at the exact answer again.

√(175) = √(25*7) = √(25)* √(7) = 5√(7)

And that's it........

(Sorry....I didn't see that Alan had already answered this...)

That's a good question, Rose98......maybe I'm taking too much for granted...let's start over

Since 175 ends in a 5, I know it's divisible by 5....so 175 = 35*5

But 35 ends in a 5, so it's also divisible by 5, so we have

7*5*5   =  7*25 = 25*7

Does that help???
