but it would have been quicker if you had made p^2 the common denominator in the first place.   :)

$$\frac {1}{p}-\frac{1}{p^2}$$

$$\frac{p^2-p}{p^3}$$

$$\frac{p(p-1)}{(p)(p^2}$$

$$\frac{p-1}{p^2}$$
