We need to convert the 17 minutes into a decimal.....since there are 60 minutes in one degree, we have

17 minutes *  1 degree/60 minutes  =  17/60 degree  =  .2833333333333333 degrees   (Note how the minutes "cross-cancelled" leaving just degrees !!)

So...we are evaluating...

sin (34.2833333333333333°) ≈ .5633
