8x + 6y = 12        the idea is to get y by itself

Subtract 8x from both sides

6y  =  -8x + 12        divide throgh by 2

3y = -4x + 6           divide through by 3

y = (-4/3)x + 2

In this form, y = mx + b,  the slope, m,  is  the  (-4/3)  in front of "x"
