The slope of the given line = -8

A perpendicular line will have a negative reciprocal slope.....so....our line will have a slope  = 1/8  = m

The equation is

y - y1  =  m ( x - x1)

And using  (-3, -5)   for (x1, y1) we have

y -  -5    =  (1/8) (x - -3)   simplify

y + 5 = (1/8)( x + 3)

y  + 5 = (1/8)x + 3/8             subtract 5 from both sides

y = (1/8)x + 3/8 - 5

y = (1 /8)x  + 3/8 - 40/8

y = (1/8) x - 37/8

A parallel line will have the same slope as the given line......so using the same idea as above

y -  -5 = -8 (x - - 3)

y + 5 = -8(x + 3)

y + 5 = -8x - 24

y = -8x -29
