4x + 16 - x = 22 + 6

First group like terms 

 

4x - x + 16 = 22 + 6

3x + 16 = 22 + 6

 

Then add 22 + 6

3x + 16 = 28

 

Subtract 16 on both sides 

3x + 16 - 16 = 28 - 16

3x = 12 

 

Divide both sides by 3 

3x/3 = 12/3

 

x = 4

 

The answer is B:  x = 4
