Solve each system using any method.. (elimination or substitution)

I SENSE you are a bright girl!

5x + 8y = 2      →     10x + 16y  = 4     (1)
-2x + 3y = -7  →      -10  + 15y  = -35   (2)

Add (1)  and (2)   this gives us

31y  = -31    divide by 31 on both sides

y = -1  

Subbing this into     5x + 8y  = 2   we have

5x + 8(-1)   = 2

5x - 8  = 2     add 8 to both sides

5x  = 10     divide by 5 on both sides

x = 2
