[ 3x + 12 ] /  [ x + 4 ] =  [4x^2 + 8x + 8x^2] / [ 2x]     simplify and combine terms

3[ x + 4] / [ x + 4 ]  =  [ 12x^2 + 8x] . [2x]

3   =  4x [ 3x + 2 ] ] [2x]

3  = 2[3x + 2 ]

3  = 6x + 4      subtract 4 from both sides

-1   = 6x        divide by 6 on both sides

-1/6 =  x
