54-10x ≤ 20+7x       add 10x to both sides, subtract 20 from both sides

34  ≤  17x               divide both sides by   17

2 ≤  x

54-10x<=20+7x

Subtract 54 on both sides

54 - 54 -10x <=20 + 7x - 54

-10x=7x - 34

Subtract 7x on both sides

-10x - 7x = 7x - 34 - 7x

-17x = -34

Then divide -17 on both sides

-17x/-17 = -17/-34

Dividing two negatives makes a positive

x = 2

The inequality symbol was not useful so it was left behind, it had no corolation with the equation.

Hope this helped ;P

Oh I see Phill explained it better than I did use Phills. The inequality symbol was this ( ≤ ) symbol not <= ok I understand.
