Hmmmm     I know the answer is x=4    but I am drawing a blank on how to get there !    Anyone else?

It can be solved through graphing and also through iteration and interpolation. Using the latter, it readily gives x=4

I'm not aware of any DIRECT solution or method that will do that. It is the same process used frequently in financial calculations, such as the yield on bonds, or compound interest rate on loans and mortgages......etc.
