f(x) = y

y = 2x + 1

We have the form  y  = mx + b

The y intercept  = (0, b)

So here...the y intercept  = 1  means the point (0, 1)

The slope is the value in front of the "x"  = 2  =  2/1

This means that y changes by 2  when x changes by 1

So....a second point on the graph  is  ( 0 + 1, 1 + 2)  = (1, 3)

Plot  (0, 2)  and (1, 3)....draw a line through them....this is your graph

The parentheses don't matter......

y = [ 2x + 1 ]  = 2x + 1
