However, I might point out that we don't have to actually use logs here.....

x2/3 = 8       just exponeniate  both sides to the (3/2)

x = 83/2

And you can get the answer by using the onsite calculator.......

(√3)x2 = 8    divide both sides by √3

x2  =  8/√3    take the square root of both sides

x = ±(8/√3)   ( or about ±4.619 )

CPhil, I believe SQRT3 implies "cube root" not "sqrt of 3"; => question is "cuberoot(x^2) = 8; then what is x?". In other words, x^(2/3) = 8, so x = ?

If you do the math, it works out to x = ~22.63

Take logarithms on both sides to get to the answer.
