Please look at the Figure normal distribution curve and clarify your question.  Please note that witihn any normal curve, a constant proportion of cases fall within one, two and three standard deviations of the mean:

 

  1. Within one SD: 68%
  2. Within two SD: 95.5%
  3. Within three SD: 99.7%
