1780 dollars is given in 10, 20, and 50 dollar bills. The total number of 20 dollar bills is 7/4 of the number of ten dollar bills. There are 8 times the number 50 dollar bills than the tens. How many bills of each type are there?

$ 1780 = (10) x  +20 (7/4 x) + 50 (8x)

                 x(10+35+400)

1780/(445) = x = Ten Bills = 4    20's = 7      50's = 32

Let x be the number of $10 bills

(7/4)x  = $20 bills

8x   = $50 bills

So value * times nmber  = total amount

10x + 20 (7/4)x + 50(8x) = 1780

10x + 35x + 400x  = 1780

445x  = 1780  divide by 445

x = 4  = $10 bills

(7/4)x  = (7/4)(4) = 7  = $20 bills

8(4)  = 32  = $50 bills

cool cool cool
