a)

80/1250 = x/4000   cross-multiply

4000(80) = 1250x     simplify

320000 = 1250x       divide both sides by 1250

320000/1250 = x = 256  

 

b) 

$1.19/32 =x/256           again, cross-multiply

304.64 = 32x                divide by 32 on both sides

$9.52 = x
