Suppose that the per capita growth rate of a population is 2% and at time t=2 the population is equal to 50. Find the exact size of the population at t=2.1?

We have

50 = Po(1.02)2      where Po is the original population.......divide both sides by  (1.02)2

50 / (1.02)2 = Po = about 48

So.....the population  at t = 2.1  =

48(1.02)2.1 =  still about 50

This is explained by the fact that the population is small and the lapse of time between 2 and 2.1 is also small......
